Cheap Ryanair flights to Spain - Granada is no go for RyanAir cheap flights

GRANADA city hall has refused to pay Ryanair a special grant to restart flights to the city.

I read in the Olive Press? this week that Ryanair, that wonderful cheap flights to Spain airline will not be using Granada airport. Never mind, theres always the cheap flights into Malaga airport. Read the story;

The airline cancelled 28 weekly flights last May after the city refused to continue subsidising the service.
Ryanair had been seeking 300,000 euros from the city each year.
?While the airline?s flights were good for the region, the benefits were not great enough to justify paying Ryanair for the privilege,? said councillor Marífran Carazo. See More of this story on the Olive Press website

have you ever visited the Nerja Today website? You should, there is plenty about Nerja and the Costa del Sol. Not just the big stories, but the little interesting ones as well, like this update about ongoing road works. You may not think it´s that interesting but wait until you take a turning down the street just to find it blocked off, you´ll wish you´d have read the article then.

On January 27th 2011, the laying of the paving stones at the end of calle Carabeo had reached number 74, just past the steps down to Carabeo beach. Now, they are all the way up to number 78, so not too long before the whole thing is finally finished.

I heard the very sad news today the legendary Thin Lizzy guitarist Gary Moore was found dead in his hotel in Estepona on the Costa del Sol.

The 58-year-old, originally from Belfast, was found dead in a hotel room on the Costa del Sol in the early hours of Sunday.

Spanish authorities said there were no signs of foul play but police will await the results of a post-mortem examination before deciding if an investigation is needed.

Bob Geldof was one of many people paying tributr to Gery Moore;

Geldof said Moore's work had been a huge influence on later rock acts, particularly bands such as Guns N' Roses, adding that he was also a fine blues guitarist.

"He is one of the great blues players," he told Radio 5 Live. "Axl Rose will say that without Thin Lizzy you don't get Guns N' Roses, and that whole idea of rock and roll, and Gary was sort of fundamental in developing that twin-guitar, lyrical thing like on Parisian Walkway.
"But really you didn't have to cut the skin hard to find just a great, great blues player, and absolutely one of the best," said Geldof, who had been a close friend of Thin Lizzy's singer Phil Lynott who died in 1986.

You can say what you like about Nerja but 15ºC in February is not to be sniffed at. A lot of people are lucky to get away in the winter, away from the rain and snow, icey roads, cold winds; Bbbrrrrrr!

My friends were very lucky, they had a week of brilliant Nerja sunshine, I´m even luckier, I´ve still got the sunshine and warm weather. ?I live here you see.

Nerja really does look beautiful when bathed in bright sunshine, it brings out the colours of the sea and the mountains as well as the bright flowers. You really do have to come and see for yourself.

There is still time to book yourself a place with El Sur on the El Capistrano Villages site and with Semena Santa not too far away, now is the time to get your finger out.

My friends have gone back to the UK after their short but pleasant stay in Nerja on the El Capistrano Villages site?. Whilst here in Nerja, they managed to get out and about and had trips to Gibraltar, Frigiliana and Almeria.

It´s amazing how we can speak the same language and still not understand what we mean. I was talking the other day to a friend of mine whilst having a coffee on Burriana Beach in Nerja, the topic of conversation turned to golf. That's where it all went wrong.

Now, I thought we were talking about the Car GOLF! and he thought I was talking about the Game GOLF?!

He said he had never done so much golfing in his life, he was worn out!

"What? You get worn out driving on the Costa del Sol?"

"Oh yes, driving hard work sometimes"

"No it´s not!" said I "Your not actually doing very much"

"No doing very much!" said he, all indignant "It´s bloody hard work! You should try it!"

I told him I had driven all along the Costa del Sol, often in the same day.

"What? every course? in one day? your a bloody liar" he tells me

It was then that I realised he was on about his golf bat or stick or whatever they call them (I believe the bat in question is called a driver)

I explained that I thought he was on about driving a Golf car!!

These golfing people can be really irate sometimes. I thought the game of golf was supposed to relax you, if that's the case, someone should tell my friend.

Whooo! John! poochie is Just in time for his "Gypsy's Kiss"

?I saw this little item on the Spanish News this morning whilst waiting in the dentist in Nerja. Some bright spark has invented a piss-post for dogs!

Yep! When your little treasure wants to splash his boots, so to speak, instead of doing his "Jimmy Riddle" on the nice white Nerja walls? and making them all yellow and smelly, he just nips to the "pipi can"

The "Pipi can" (or Edgar Allen "Poe" to yer cockneys) is a silver post that has a grid at the bottom and this goes into the ground or main sewers, just like our own waste. The dogs seem well pleased with this invention, and, in the absence of a tree or someones leg, it´s ideal.

Nerja Holidays 2011 - XBOX 360 with Kinect madness

Hazel in Nerja "I´m not playing that XBOX, It will make me look silly!"

My friends are over for a couple of weeks from the UK and staying at El Capistrano villas, Nerja Village. Hazel, Jimmy, Ian and Marie are regulars on the El Capistrano site and try to stay there as often as they can, they really do love Nerja.

Well, as luck would have it, they all dropped in to see me after they had spent three or four days on Gibraltar before heading to El Capistrano
and we deecided to try out our new XBOX 360 with Kinect. For those of you unfamiliar with the XBOX 360 with Kinect machine, it is a games console that allows the players to play games without handsets, you just stand in front of the telly and make a fool of yourself.

We played Ten Pin Bowling, I won, of course, but then we got silly and decided to play the River Rafting Game. I have never seen middle aged people look so stupid! if someone had looked through the window at us jumping up and down and screaming "to the right! to the left!" and groaning at our lack of success, they would have us locked up.

We must have played for two hours. Sillyness got the better of us and we tried the boxing..My God! It nearly killed me; I was completely knackered and gave up after two goes. The next morning it felt like I had been run over by a truck, I was aching all over.

It will be a while before the XBOX 360 with Kinect machine sees the light of day again. My friends are coming back before they leave El Capistrano but theres no way I´m playing that thing so soon.
