Nerja Holidays: Visit to Torre del Mar water park

Wheeeeeeeeee!

Water parks! they are fantastic for young and old alike and make a fantastic day out. Torre del Mar water park is about 15 minutes in a car from El Capistrano village http://www.elcapistrano.com/ site and is a real fun day out.

The slides vary in size and speed with the "Kamikaze" shooting the good people down it´s slide at a terrifying speed, so much so, you fly across the surface of the water for about 10 metres!!!
The "Foam" is 4 slides together, this is also a fast ride, not a daft as the "Kamikaze" though.

The "Multipistas" are two slides that twist and turn around each other..scary! The other rides are the "Tirebuzon" "Tobogan Coline" "Rio rapido" and many more, including a surf pool that sends you bobbing up and down on great big waves. Great fun.

I don´t know about you, but, after a week away on holiday I get an urge for Curry! So, being a curry lover I thought I might let you in on two great Indian restaurants.

A taste of India, Nerja. This is a great Indian restaurant and the Pickle tray is fantastic. I have been here many times and I think this would be well worth a visit for you as well.

Nerja Holidays: Visit to Malaga

Maureen Brindle had a splitting headache!

No vist to Nerja would be complete without a visit to Malaga city.
There is so much to do in Malaga city, so much to see, so much to eat! I know, I´ve done it a few times.
Where would you start? well, theres the tourist bus that you can hop on and off all day, you also get supplied with a set of earphones that supplies endless information on the different locations.

Malaga is Picasso mad. there is a museum of Picasso´s works but please don´t expect too much of this, it´s the stuff from the attic and looks like a 2 year old has thrown a wobbler. Unless you are a fan of Picasso, give this a miss because you will be dissapointed, really.

There a a number of great buildings to visit, Iglesia Santiago is a must.

If there is a game on get down to Estadio la Rosaleda and watch Malaga cf, they have a mass of foriegn supporters, collectively known as the "Guiri Army"

Oh well, It´s nearly time for my Autumn holidays and you can guess where I´m off to? No? Well, I´ll tell yer. I´m off to Nerja!
I´m on my jolly hols with my dear mother, brother Steve, sister Sheila and a friend I have not clapped eyes on for 32 years, no doubt he won´t look a day older..er...
I´m looking forward to going to La Barca chiriguito on Burriana beach as well as Ayo´s, Bar Okey, Bitter and Twisted and a host of other places. I do enjoy villa holidays in Nerja as it gives you freedom to ge where you want without having to worry about hotel itinerary.

I´ll not be going to the Nerja caves as I nearly lost mother in there last time. A vist to El Capistrano is on the cards though.

Late Summer Holiday in Nerja

Oh well, that´s this years late holiday in Nerja done but what a week.

My folks, or some of them, minus my dear old ma, who had a fall, came to stay for a week and were blessed with some of the hottest November weather on record. Imagine, swimming in the Med in November.

Joseph, a friend, whom I have not seen in 35 years had the time of his life as this was his first trip abroad and judging by his happy disposition, not his last foriegn trip.

Laura (not in photo) who is my great niece and just sixteen, she loved Nerja and wants to come back in the New Year, my sisters are regular visitors.

My family spent the week doing the usual...sunbathing, eating, drinking and walking around the town. Burriana Beach was fantastic.

Guess who got soaked with Cava?

The villa ge of Villanueva del Trabuco went loco as the national team beat Holland 1 - 0 to clinch their first ever world cup. Celebrations included being soaked in Cava as well as the fire hydrant. The party went on all night. No doubt, Nerja was the same.

One of the great things about living in Spain is the fiestas. The Spaniards don´t need much prompting to get into the fiesta mood. Nerja will be awash with Spaniards and tourists all watching the world cup final.

I watched the European Cup final in the village of Villanueva del Trabuco (see http://www.vallerosario.com and http://www.placesforrentspain.com)and the atmosphere was fantastic. Spain won, of course, and the party afterwards went on all night.

I have friends staying at http://www.elcapistrano.com for the whole of the world cup. Lucky sods.

Spanish world cup winning team return home to Madrid

WORLD CHAMPIONS 2010 FIFA WORLD CUP

The Spanish foot ball team arrived back in Spain after winning the FIFA World Cup in South Africa. There were scenes of utter delight as the bus carrying Casillas, Torres, Puyol, fabregas and the rest of the winning team toured the city, showing of the prize. It was Spains first world cup final and their first win.

People in towns and villages across Spain watched the match live on TV along with billions of others worldwide. Nerja had it´s own large screen set up and fans of both Spain and Holland, along with countless nuetrals holidaying in Nerja, enjoying a tense and often brutal final.

Caridad and Vanessa: My request for extra ice was turned down!

Let´s face it folks, the game it´self was a disgrace. The Dutch team seemed intent on kicking the Spaniards rather than kicking the ball. The referee, a gallant Englishman called Howard Webb, brandished 14 yellow cards and 1 red card in a game that was branded "tempestuous and ugly" and was anything but a showcase for world football. Did you watch the game in Nerja? send me your photos and I´ll add them here.

Howard Webb: Did very well to control a savage game.

This shocker even had the great Dutch player Johan Cruyff write in column:

"Regrettably, sadly, they played very dirty. So much so that they should have been down to nine immediately, they made two ugly and hard tackles that even I felt the damage," he wrote in his column in El Periodico de Catalunya.

"This ugly, vulgar, hard, hardly eye-catching, lack of football style served the Dutch to unsettle Spain. If with this they got satisfaction, fine, but they ended up losing.
"Some practiced anti-football considering that it was the only way to survive. It finished 0-0 [after 90 minutes] because they [Spain] could not play as they wanted."
 
Cruyff also criticised the referee for not sending off two Dutch players in the first half, saying that, who wants to see 9 players versus 11 players for most of the game. Some referees just can´t win.
Oh well, the world cup may be over but at least there is always another week in Nerja to look forward to?

Nerja: Staying in Nerja for the weekend

Oh yes! Folks. or should I say "Oh yes! Fawlk!" It´s none other than my old mucker Russell "Elvis" Fawlk doing the honours on the karaoke machine to entertain the good people of Nerja. Lucky for old Russ that he is fond of rotten fruit and veg, the stains came out off his cloths after a few good washes.

Deciding to have the weekend off from slaving on the coast, he spent two nights in Nerja with a lady friend and watched the world cup in the plaza with a multitude of Dutch, Danes, Spaniards, Brits and the rest of the world.

But, being the troubador that he is, old blue eyes couldn´t resist a warble or two and anyway, they would only have thrown that old fruit and veg in the bin. See Russell Fawlk on FaceBook

Nerja enjoys the hot weather

It´s really hot in Nerja at the moment...Great! If you have ever stayed at one of the El Capistrano Villages apartments or villas then you would be very aware that there some great places to visit on really hot days. The Nerja Caves are nice and cool and for a few Euro you can spend the day wandering about the caves, have a meal and a drink in the restaurant while you admire the great views or fill our face with a big sloppy ice cream.

You could also visit the Nerja Donkey Sanctuary and see all the lovely animals that have been rescued. It´s a great place for the kids to visit.

Burriana beach is a must on the hot days, you can dip in the Med or lounge about on the sunbeds or again, fill your face from one of the many restaurants and bars along the Burriana beach front. Enjoy!

The Antequera Blues Festival 2010

If you are staying at El Capistrano in one of the villas and apartments and you fancy a bit of culture then why not head north for a bout an hour to the town of Antequera. There is a really good night to be had in one of Andalucias beautiful and interesting towns.

Antequera has more places of worship than any other town or city in Spain and the culture just oozes out of every brick. Antequera is my favourite town in Spain and I do hope you pay a visit. For the Blues fans, it is a must.
